![]() It seemed only fitting for Konami Kukeiha Club (the same team responsible for Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth), to essentially match this ethos for the soundtrack, updating tracks from the original games into what can now be seen as a Gradius remix album. Viewed as a “video game remix,” Gradius ReBirth took levels from previous entries in the series and renewed them to form a brand new beast for the 21st century. The Dark Forces led by the god of destruction, Bacterian, prepare to launch a massive onslaught against the planet Gradius. Its most recent installment is Gradius V for the Playstation 2. The TurboGrafx-16 version of Gradius is a handsome iteration of a classic game. It first appeared in Salamander as the core of the Salamander Planetoid. Initially released in Japan in 2008 (and not reaching the shores of North America & Europe until the following year), Gradius ReBirth was a welcome return to the side-scrolling shooters of yore, taking advantage of modern programming by featuring smoother scrolling, brighter colours, sharper pixels… and this barnstormer of a soundtrack, which Ship to Shore PhonoCo. ![]() Kennedy’s funeral procession that gave Harley the musical epiphany to incorporate the bagpipe into his repertoire. Harley had already familiarized himself with nearly every instrument in the woodwind family by his mid-20s, but it was the appearance of nine pipers from the Royal Regiment of Scotland’s Black Watch in John F. And if there has been, it’s unlikely that whoever played it did it in as transcendently surprising a way as Rufus Harley did with his. I’m not sure if there’s ever been a more unlikely instrument to make its way into the world of jazz than the bagpipe. In this sense, the maniacal, full-throttle 16-minute marathon jam version the Byrds recorded live the following year for their (Untitled) album isn’t just a band finding spectacular new ways to explore their own work - it’s a necessary corrective. “Moby Dick” it ain’t - Sieb Warner, in his first and only album with Golden Earring, plays the drums like a button-mashing ’90s pre-teen trying to figure out how to play Street Fighter II for the first time - and when Rinus Gerritsen comes in on bass to sort of clumsily spar with him it sounds absolutely hapless. Aaaaaaand then, whoops, here comes the drum solo. Just not as preposterous as this 19-minute version of “Eight Miles High” that they released as a side-length title track of an LP in 1969, one of the most ceaseless and exhausting attempts in recorded history to try and put forth the idea that, hey, maybe this song isn’t about flying in an airplane, y’know? It runs a pretty noodly course, starting with some solid zone-out psych jam potential - George Kooymans’s and Gerry Hay’s guitars aren’t exactly virtuoso, but there’s some good interplay for a bit, and there’s a nice bit of loud-quiet-loud dynamic going that keeps the uptempo momentum at a decent jogging pace for about eight minutes and change. They released their first LP Just Earrings in 1965, their most recent one Tits ‘N Ass (yeesh) in 2012, and have been running with more or less the same core band members since 1970, which is absolutely preposterous. Golden Earring (1969)įor a band most casual music fans in the States know for approximately two songs - 1973’s “Radar Love” and 1982’s “Twilight Zone” - the Netherlands’ Golden Earring had the kind of career that seems almost unbelievable in its length and breadth. ![]() Here’s how it made it beyond the Summer Of Love, and across dozens of summers afterwards. ![]() For a song so deeply associated with psychedelic rock that it’s regularly cited as the movement’s origin point, “Eight Miles High” found purchase anywhere that a band either felt like spiralling out into the exosphere with improvisation or needed a melodic, instant-hook pop classic to filter through their sensibilities. The funny thing about “Eight Miles High,” in fact, is that it wound up being interpreted through the lens of nearly every single subgenre of rock music from metal to UK indie - including hardcore punk, of course, in the form of Hüsker Dü’s peerless cover (more on which is below here’s where I note that the passing of Grant Hart is what spurred this edition of Gotcha Covered in the first place). (Well, OK, maybe a little about drugs, but more significantly about homesick alienation in the middle of a crowd.) And while there’s been some custody disputes over who actually contributed what to the song - the late Gene Clark, shortly to leave the band, claimed majority authorship, while Roger McGuinn and David Crosby later claimed they simply finished his first draft - at this point it feels like one of those songs that wound up belonging to any succession of artists who found a way to take it through - and past - its proto-psychedelic origins. For a song that’s been so often reduced to ’60s Montage Cliche #00001B ( Note: Please use only in case of rights restrictions for the Youngbloods’ “Get Together”), the Byrds’ “Eight Miles High” is still something of a miracle - a successful translation of avant-garde jazz into pop music, a harmonic convergence where every singer and player is at their best, and a song that actually feels more resonant when you discover it’s not about drugs. ![]() These agreements are renegotiated every 3 years. Instead, the minimum wage is determined on a sector-by-sector basis, known as national collective bargaining agreements (NCBAs), or negotiated at a local or even at a company level. Some measure of explanation for the pay gap can be found in the higher levels of unemployment and the lower cost of living in the southern regions of Italy.īut what if you’re a student or intern, who often can only find work at minimum wage? Unfortunately, it’s not a straightforward answer: Italy does not have a national minimum wage. So, if you’re going for the big bucks, follow the needle of your compass.īut why are southern salaries so much lower? For one, the southern regions and the Islands have a much higher share of low-income employees (17,8%) compared to the northern regions (6.7%)( Statista & Job Pricing). In fact, the average yearly salary in the Basilicata region (around the ankle of the famous Italian ‘boot’) is almost €7,000 lower than in Lombardy. ![]() That said, the further south you go, you'll find that the average salary gets lower. Let’s take a look at some of the average salaries per city in Italy (Based on the numbers by SalaryExplorer): National average The regional averages are one thing, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t earn a good buck if you live in a different region. Then there’s the province of Lazio in the centre of Italy, which is where you’ll find Rome! In the province of Piedmont, we find another economic powerhouse that boosts the average in the region: Turin. To start off, Lombardy is the home region for Milan, which boasts the highest average salary in Italy overall. There are no real surprises as to why these areas do very well. The provinces with the highest average earnings include Lombardy in North Italy, Lazio in Central Italy and Piedmont in North-west Italy. If you’re looking for better salaries in Italy, there’s an easy rule to follow: go North! Let’s take a look! What are the regional wage differences in Italy? You're most probably wondering "Where will I earn the most in Italy?". These jobs are more likely to be found in larger companies, which also tend to pay more than average. The other factors that have an influence on the wages you’ll encounter are:Īdditionally, it’s pretty likely that, as an expat, you’ll be looking for international- or English-speaking jobs. Either way, the national average for Italy is higher than that in the majority of European countries.Ĭombine that with the fact that the cost of living in Italy is lower than the EU average and the likelihood that you, as an expat, are a highly skilled worker means that life in Italy could be pretty cosy on the financial end! Average salaries vary by industry or regionĭon’t forget that the median income doesn't represent the absolute reality since 50% of Italy's population earns less than that. If we look at the most recent salary data provided by Statista, the average gross salary for Italy shows a more realistic number around €29,700 or €2,475 a month. If this sounds high, it’s because this number includes various benefits, such as housing stipends, travel expenses, vacation allowance, etc. Luckily for you, we’ve already done the digging necessary to help you figure out how much you should be earning as an expat in Italy.Īverage income in Italy on a national levelĪccording to Salary Explorer, the average gross salary for Italy as of March 2023 is around €43,800 per year or €3,650 a month. But this number can vary depending on a number of factors. The simple answer is you can expect to earn about €2,475 per month working in Italy. If you’re aware of the average pay, you’ll be able to determine whether an offer you’re getting is a good salary in Italy for your industry, position and experience. The average salary in Italy is probably one of the first things you’ll consider if you want to make Italy your new home. ![]() Please be aware that is not in any way responsible for the GST Invoice or any associated input tax credit. and the Seller are not responsible for any failure on the part of the user, including issues related to information the user has provided. ![]() Just because I think that this was an overreaction on bummy's part doesn't mean i know nothing about the history of the game. Lots of batters react with passion to not hitting a homerun, missing their pitch, or driving in that RBI, and lots of pitchers don't take offense. You're making such a rash assessment though, based on a disagreement of opinion. The context gave me a healthier perspective on the significance of long-standing sport/fandom rivalries. My first dorm-mate practically forced it onto my first semester reading list. There’s a lot of great history tied up in the Tobacco Road rivalry. □Īlso, give this book a read-through sometime. I’d also encourage you to get your passport updated and visit the People’s Republic of Carrboro just a bit further down Franklin Street as you’ll never find a more spectacular assortment of delightfully strange people in our entire state. I hope you have the opportunity to interact with some more pleasant, down-to-earth Chapel Hill students/residents in the future-perhaps in a less raucous, competitive context. ![]() We may vary by degrees from individual to individual, but the potential is always there. We’re capable of heinous, selfish, harmful acts as well. And there’s a reason you never wear Carolina colors when tailgating at Carter-Finley unless you’re traveling in a large group. I’ve also seen the Cameron crazies wildly celebrate the blood coming from the face of Tyler Hansbrough. It’s certainly happened at UNC-I recall discussing our disappointment with the cheers over Zion’s injury with a few old friends. Perhaps the culture has changed though there were definitely students, alumni, and fans in my day that took an ultimately inconsequential basketball rivalry much too far-well beyond the bounds of human decency and considerate behavior. I’m generally not a huge fan of sporting events for the mob mentality alone. In addition to the main players, like Nash and Coach D'Antoni, the book also goes into details about the personalities, styles, and characteristics of a lot of the role-players and assistant coaches, too, like Shawn Marion, Boris Diaw, James Jones, Raja Bell, Tim Thomas, and Alvin Gentry. For context, if you didn't get a chance to follow the team, while Nash ran the offense, Amare was the second-most important player on the team, as he was an offensive juggernaut, their main scorer, and one of the NBA's star young big men at the time. The season the author chose to follow was especially interesting because it was the year where Amare basically sat out the entire season. I'm not much of a book reader, but this one was captivating, especially as an NBA junkie who grew up watching the SSOL Suns. It's possibly my favorite book of all-time. There is actually a great book about the team, called Seven Seconds or Less: My Season on the Bench with the Runnin' and Gunnin' Phoenix Suns. The way I remember it is that he announced his comeback pretty soon after 9/11, almost like it was a response to the eventĭead wrong about the SSOL Suns being potentially uninteresting. I want to say it was a 9/11 victims charity but I'm not 100% on that. Lots of isos, particularly by Jordan.Īnother thing: He took the veterans exception to play as a Wizard, which was only like $1 million a year, and he donated his salary for those two years to charity. It was a tough era to watch basketball if you were a fan of offense. The efficiency isn't great, particularly that first year, but the entire league was not very efficient at that time. His second season his percentages are up across the board and, most impressively, he played all 82 games as he was turning 40 years old averaging 37 minutes a game. Because of this, his stats don't really look very good in comparison to the rest of his career. ![]() ![]() He was such a maniac about playing that he refused to let it rest until he just couldn't play anymore. Reading the book on those years illuminated the fact that Jordan's knee had severe tendinitis basically his entire first season as a Wizard, due to being older and training heavily out of nowhere (he announced his comeback very late in the offseason prior), and had to be drained multiple times. His Washington years get made fun of but he was pretty damn good. ![]() Since Stellarium is intended to be your personal planetarium, particular emphasis should be put on the amount of available information for planets, stars, and deep-sky objects, as well as their image quality.
